On Monday it was twelve months since I arrived here in the UK for a four-month trial run to see how things would go with Joe and I; for me the trials of being away from my family in Australia. Obviously, all has gone well given that I moved here permanently in May. Last week we spent the week in the Eden Valley and the Lake District reflecting on our time together.
During the past couple of months I’ve spent time concentrating on writing as well as keeping up my volunteer work within the local community. I’ve just completed a creative writing course and a photography course meeting some wonderful people along the way especially within the creative writing group.
These pictures were taken last week on a trip to Hadrian’s Wall. We walked about six miles taking in Crag Lough. Little Henry came with us. I think Henry walked nine miles!

On Friday we went to the Lake District and stayed at Lodore Falls Hotel.
We were fortunate to see the most spectacular sunset and spent some time taking photographs. We felt like we were in the Swiss Alps. The cold frost bit the fingers making it difficult to keep the camera steady.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………We’ve had our challenges, for me largely being away from my three daughters and two granddaughters. Even now there are days when it’s a struggle. Would I change anything? Definitely not. My creative writing teacher has just recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. Maggie is facing it head on. Last night she was at class, today in hospital. Seeing Maggie at class put everything into perspective. She’s one inspirational woman. Not one complaint. Counting her blessings for the great health care in this Country. Thinking of you Maggie.
Life is good and we are blessed.

So, THAT’S what you’ve been up to!!! I agree with your final sentiment. Yes, we are so blessed and, even if apart from friends and family we love, we have to take advantage of the opportunity to be with that one special person if we are so blessed. There is nothing quite as satisfying as that particular type of relationship when it is a good one. It’s the one thing we would forgive our family and closest friends if it made them disappear from our daily appointment calendar. Yup, nothing is sweeter than the gentle smiling face that greets you as soon as your eyes open at dawn.
That’s a lovely way of putting it Sue. You of all people know exactly what I’m talking about.
Yes. And I’m stunned when I look back and realize I’ve been here in California over a year and a half. I came for similar reasons as you… love. Strictly a decision of a matured heart. I knew it was where I needed to be. It’s been tough with family being less accessible–my Mom especially–and I may go back one day… but not alone. <3
Lovely post ans pictures, I hope your friend is ok.
Thanks Athena.
I am so happy for you that the year has worked out well for you
Thank you Elizabeth.
Good to see you blogging again and glad to hear things are going well for you. I’ve missed you!
Thanks Michael. I see you and Toodles are settling into the rhythm of your new life together.
